“Feeling inspired after a weekend trip out to White Cliffs, a small opal mining town a few hrs from Broken Hill. I began sifting back through the photos I took. One in particular was my favourite, taken at sunset, looking out over the altered landscape of the mining fields, just having finished a tour of the underground mine shaft below. The rich colours of the sunsets in the desert out here have captivated me since I moved here, and I wanted to use those colours in this piece. I also wanted to recreate that feeling of magic, adventure and giddy excitement as we hunted for opals in the dying hours of the day.”
